"Generations in the Balance" an Evening with Military Ministry, a Division of Campus Crusade for Christ

Major General Bob Dees (US Army Retired), Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, and Lieutenant General Jeff Oster (USMC Retired)

What an incredible evening in Dallas, Texas, Thursday 4/23/2009. I was honored to attend a company of heroes at a banquet of supporters for Military Ministry, an organization on the front lines of helping our veterans at war and at home. Military Ministry is a divison of Campus Crusade for Christ and offers a variety of resources to help veterans in their service to our country. Major General Bob Dees, Executive Director, and his board of business and military professionals were on hand to welcome many of the attendees who had come to Dallas from all over the country.

The night showcased our veterans who serve our country selflessly to include former combat veterans who are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a Gold Star mom who shared her story and testimony, to prominent community leaders, other military and business benefactors. Norm Miller, CEO and Founder of Interstate Battery, a long time supporter, issued a check for $250,000 and offered to match that amount again within the next 120 days. Mr. Gene Birdwell, business owner and volunteer head of a PTSD organization donated $50,000 on behalf of his organization. Our friends Rick and Julie Fairchild were also in attendance.

LtCol Oliver North with company of U.S. Marines

Combat Marine and Author Donovan Campbell

Donovan Campbell is a Marine's Marine, serving three combat tours in the deadliest parts of Iraq and leading his platoon who suffered over 50% casualties, the highest rate since the Viet Nam war. He and his well-trained fighting force held their sector and he writes about their experience in his book "Joker One."

Former Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Gene Overstreet

SgtMaj Overstreet was my Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps when I served in the U.S. Marines. What an honor to meet the man in person. He was the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps during Desert Storm/Desert Shield and has an impressive service to his country and to his Marines. There is only one enlisted rank of Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps at a time, reserved for the best of the best among the enlisted ranks.

A Photo op with my hero LtCol Oliver North, USMC Retired

Finally, to culminate the evening, an opportunity to meet my hero and great American who prefers to be on the front lines in a company of heroes. LtCol North is an amazing man and continues to serve his country as a combat correspondent, news commentator, host of "War Stories" (airing on Fox News), and author of many books, most recently - "American Heroes."

"Hannah Montana" Blows Through H-Town

My Daughter and I at "Hannah Montana" Concert

The "Hannah Montana" phenomenon is enough to catch the attention of any Strategic Marketer. Having young girls who introduced me to this well-mechanized Marketing machine is enough to motivate a dad to move heaven and Earth to get his girl to this "must attend" concert along with 73,426 others. We made it thanks to a friend who got us in and we blog about it at Kayla Ventures and I go on-air with Kevin Price of the "Houston Business Show" to talk about how and why Miley Cyrus has captured the hearts and minds of families around the world. Leadership Summit 2007 - Lead Where You Are

Wow! Just completed 3 days of intense leadership re-calibration at The Fellowship of The Woodlands, "Leadership Summit 2007". This was my second year to attend and I encourage others to seek it out and put it on your schedule for next year 8/7 thur 8/9 2008 (see http://www.willowcreek.com/ for more details on 2008).

The summit is satellite broadcasted all over the world, with over 100,000 leaders attending this year. We heard from Carly Fiorina, Former HP CEO, Floyd Flake, Marcus Buckingham, Michael Porter, PhD, Harvard Strategy Professor, Colin Powell, Former Secretary of State, John Ortberg, Filmmaker Richard Curtis (who has raised over $1B to help the poor and dying in Africa), Jimmy Carter (not my favorite past President, but interesting man to learn from), and of course, Bill Hybels.

I get inspired everytime I go, to do greater things. Our "little missions" when compared to the greater things going on around us, pale in comparison to what others have done and are doing to make life better for the desperately hopeless. Leadership is a gift and a higher calling. I am looking forward to the drastic changes I am making in my business, life, and focus for the rest of the year. The most dangerous prayer one can make, is "Lord use me!" Lead where you are. Get caught up in THE VORTEX.

My Whirlwind Trip to "The OC", Disney, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood

Wow! Just got back from a working vacation in beautiful Southern California. My clients and friends Leesa and Denny Bellesi, authors of "The Kingdom Assignment", honored my wife and I with a "WELL DONE AWARD" at the first annual awards night recognizing 30 other recipients (read more about the event at the links above).

We turned this opportunity into a vacation with our two young girls, Kayla and Kenna, and spent a relaxing but fast-paced week on Balboa Island (south of LA). Had a chance to do my very first YouTube diary from Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood and a podcast that I will post later. Spent some quality time with a new author and movie client at the posh Grand Havana Room in Beverly Hills (members only).

Had a chance to meet and see a few stars; but basically, I enjoyed that my wife and family had a chance to meet some of the people we see on TV and in theatres, hear on the radio, read about, and watch on DVD at home (i.e., Chris Gardner the subject of the movie "Pursuit of Happyness", Mark Clayman, Executive Producer for the movie "Pursuit of Happyness", Mario Bernheim, one of the original founders of HBO "Comic Relief", American Idol stars Katharine McPhee and Chris Sligh, gospel singer Bebe Winans, actress Lin Ciangio, and of course Mickey Mouse, etc.).

My wife usually shuns the limelight, but I had to take a few pictures for her to prove to her co-workers that she really did meet some of these people, etc. My young girls fit in well on the scene, asking more about Kahtarine McPhee's puppy and going for their personal glam shots at their private tea party on the island and a chance to take a "kewl" photo with their favorite star Mickey!
